| My art, my proof July 26
At my first exhibition, I was astonished. I had never before perceived gender so strongly in my pictures. It is everywhere. When I stopped making art for a few years, the solution for the woman in my subconscious was to finally bring herself into consciousness. The channel through art was, after all, closed. She had to come out into the conscious mind. That was in January 2021. It is a sudden realisation. From that moment on, I know that I am a woman. So I have finally understood the urge, and my art. My inner being as a woman has always manifested itself through my art. My art is proof that I am a woman. It is authentic. It is me; I am it. Now, through my art, I can show my guests that I am a woman and have always been a woman. And in this way, I can explain my art and my being as a woman. I love my art. I love myself. I love myself as a woman! I always start by making an etching. A drawing that is etched into a copper plate and then printed in a limited edition. This is almost always in black and white. For the large colour paintings, I enlarge the etching using a pen and black acrylic paint. I apply this to mounted, lightly primed paper so that the paint does not soak in too much and shines beautifully. Then I paint the colour in with acrylic paint made from the finest pigments, like a watercolour, very wet. My colour palette My colour palette consists of yellow, orange, red, pink, violet, blue, cyan, or shades of brown. Green doesn’t appeal to me, turquoise at most; for me, it’s all around in nature. My choice of colours is based on intuition and feeling, and sometimes simply on spontaneity. I love strong colours; that’s how I dress too. My subject matter Vaginas, breasts. Pubic hair when I need dark areas. Ovals are openings, vaginas. Circles are breasts, the anus, the stomach and the navel. Ovaries often take the shape of snail shells. Arcs are usually legs. There are hints of the penis, the glans and the testicles. Sometimes there are simple objects, for example a castle, into which I then incorporate my sexual forms. It can be an engine, with its valves and cylinders, like flowers. I love flowers very much; they are sensual, they are like sexual organs, and they appear frequently. Also seed pods, or leaves as they unfurl. And here and there I add an oval, or a circle, because it simply has to be there. There are always horizontal and vertical lines. For me, these also represent the energetic directions of the human being. The earth and the sky. The openness all around. When a connection is needed between two forms, for energies to be exchanged. Like nerves and veins. Of course, I also view my art through the eyes of a visual designer, a graphic artist. My profession. detail here and there, but I always consult my inner self. I never create anything based solely on my head, on my thoughts. At the same time, I create a frame using gold leaf. The frame is part of the picture; it isolates it from its surroundings. Sometimes I can’t find the right colour, but when I hold the frame up to the picture, I know it. My art is TransArt, isn’t it? |
